    Description

Rare Decker No. 2 Blowtorch, Unlisted Version – This rare self-acting blowtorch, Model No. 2, was manufactured by the Decker Mfg. Co. of Newark, New Jersey. This is an unlisted version similar to Version No. 2 in having a burner with smooth sides and no lettering on the tank. It differs, however, in having its lower handle support affixed to the SIDE rather than the bottom of the fuel tank.
The control knob is made from some sort of pressed fiber material which is marked “DECKER MFG. CO. NEWARK, N.J.” and  “PAT. PHOENIX  JULY 19.10”. This refers to US Patent No. 965,136 for a new design of small pumpless torch.
This highly unusual one-half pint gasoline-fueled torch has a thick machined cast aluminum tank. The tank was filled from the bottom. The bottom of the conically-shaped tank is 3 ½ inches in diameter and the top is about 3 inches in diameter. The tank is about 4 inches in height. As noted above, the tank is cast aluminum and the burner is bronze.
The control shaft and strap supports for the wooden handle are made of steel. Please note that the lower handle support is missing its screw. The several versions of this blowtorch are shown on page 96 in the book
